Web3 Symbol Systems
If you’ve been reading this publication for a while, you know I’m a fan visual frameworks for web3, particularly those in the Growth and Marketing sphere.
Yesterday evening, I came across a great piece by Eliot Couvat about Web3 Symbol Systems. Check it out below:
Web3 Marketing 101: Shaping A Symbol System.

While reading the piece, my eyes gravitated towards the pretty visual.
Eliot’s Symbol System is broken out into 4 categories:
Ideas - What are the stories, ideas, and values that your members connect and are deeply aligned with?
Words - Creating a shared language strengthens a community while elevating recognition. What are the words and phrases that are associated with and unique to the community?
Images - How is the community visualized on an individual and communal level? How can the imagery be appealing to the point where the community evangelizes it?
Signs - Another way to symbolize membership in the community. They are shareable, recognizable, and easily added to a profile.
Eliot expands on this in a tweet thread with 8 web3-native brands. A sample of them are below:
Though these concepts aren’t new, it’s great to see how web3 brands and companies are incorporating them into a cohesive strategy.

Trump NFTs
I debated whether or not to write about this, but as I poked into the collection and project, I realized this is another example of what not to do. It reminds me of my piece several months back on celebrity NFT projects.
When I wrote the piece back in July, the Chris Brown Breezyverse collection had 304/10,000 NFTs minted. Where are we today?
Now we see Trump entering web3, but I was curious to know what’s really going on.
This is the official video promoting the Trump Cards collection.
This is hilarious, serious 3am infomercial vibes #trump #nft
Infomercial vibes indeed. The collection size will be 45,000 and is sold at $99 a pop. Half of the supply has been minted at the time of this writing.
What specifically bothers me is that holders may be unaware of the reality that this is a $99 lottery ticket…and the prizes may not be as juicy as advertised.
Additionally, this effort isn’t really by Trump. It’s the product of NFT INT LLC, and they are using Trump’s NIL (name, image, likeness).
“NFT INT LLC is not owned, managed or controlled by Donald J. Trump, The Trump Organization, CIC Digital LLC or any of their respective principals or affiliates. NFT INT LLC uses Donald J. Trump's name, likeness and image under paid license from CIC Digital LLC, which license may be terminated or revoked according to its terms.”
And the prizes?
Pretty awesome, right? The prize structure and details reveals some creative positioning. For example, that dinner that’s guaranteed if you buy 45 of these NFTs?
It’s a 2,000 person dinner. Might make you reconsider dropping $4,455.
We’ll see how this plays out 🤷🏻♂️
See you tomorrow!
